Anyone who’s had the good fortune of paying a visit to SJW’s Meter Shop is likely acquainted with its friendly, dedicated and multi-talented Superintendent, Anh Tran.
A veteran of SJW for over 23 years, Anh started as a specialist in the IT department, and eventually took charge of the Meter Shop and Meter Reading department in a role created specifically for her and her unique background and skillset.
With Bachelor’s degrees in Marketing and Management Information Systems from SJSU, and an MBA from University of Phoenix, Anh has been instrumental in getting Meter Reading procedures and systems automated and up to speed. She attends multiple conferences each year to stay on top of all the latest advances in metering technology, preparing the department for its ongoing transition to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
A typical work day varies for Anh, but generally starts at around 6 am working remotely to support meter readers, and in the office by 7 am. With her team’s shifts ending by 3:30, she stay until 5-6 pm often for meetings. Much of her time is also dedicated to creating a new system for workflow as well as field visits to meet with customers.
Growing up in south Vietnam with nine brothers and sisters, Anh feels lucky to have had supportive parents who always encouraged their children to pursue a higher education. They moved to the US after Anh’s first year of university, when she transferred to SJSU. Beginning in elementary school where she excelled at math and continuing throughout her career, she has always found herself in male-dominated work environments, never allowing any potential prejudices deter her from achieving her goals.
Outside of work, Anh has many passions including traveling, coffee sampling, gardening, interior design, and playing the mandolin and violin. One of her favorite ways to unwind is playing the mandolin in her (drought-friendly!) garden complete with koi pond in the evenings.
We are so thankful to have Anh as a valued member and leader on the San Jose Water team!
