For the month of August, SJW is celebrating Watershed Appreciation Month and we hope you’ll join us!

At SJW, we are proud partners in the stewardship of the Los Gatos Creek watershed in collaboration with various community partners. This watershed is part of a vital ecosystem that supports numerous communities, landowners, public entities, and environmental groups. Together, we work diligently to manage and protect these lands through the Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaboration Forest Health Project.

Jared Lewis, Manager of Environmental Planning and Natural Resources (R) joined the Santa Clara County Firesafe Council for a tour of the Los Gatos Creek Watershed in May 2024

This collaborative effort includes key stakeholders such as SJW, Cal Fire, Santa Clara County FireSafe Council, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, Santa Clara County Parks, ASCENT, and ARC Resource Management. By joining forces, we ensure the sustainable management of this critical natural resource.

In collaboration with the Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaborative, SJW plays a crucial role in managing this vital ecosystem. Our responsibilities include managing hazardous fuels and forest health to mitigate wildfire risks, responding to fires when they do occur, studying and protecting local wildlife and plant species, and continuously monitoring surface water quality. This proactive approach to land management and protection is what we call environmental stewardship.

As part of a deeper dive into environmental stewardship and our watershed initiatives at SJW, we encourage you to watch this webinar presentation by Jared Lewis, our Manager of Environmental Planning and Natural Resources. Jared oversees programs that promote sustainable surface water supply and the responsible management of natural resources across SJW lands.

Recently, we had the privilege of hosting a watershed tour with our partners, elected officials, and members of the press. This event provided a firsthand look at our efforts and highlighted the importance of our conservation initiatives. To learn more about this tour, check out this article in the Los Gatan
