SJW recently placed in service a critical water main replacement project along Lochridge Drive, near the busy intersection of King and McKee Roads in San Jose.

This $2 million project replaced nearly 3,200 feet of aging 6-inch and 8-inch wrapped steel pipe from 1954 with modern ductile iron pipe (DICL), improving the reliability of water service for the community. The project also included the installation of eight new fire hydrants, enhancing fire protection in the area.
This project was carefully planned to minimize disruptions while upgrading essential infrastructure. Given the large number of customers that would be impacted by the project, construction required night work to reduce service interruptions and ensure residents and businesses in this busy corridor experienced minimal inconvenience.
The original pipeline, installed in 1954, served the community for over 70 years. That same year, the first color television sets became widely available, and the world was introduced to the Fender Stratocaster guitar. While technology has come a long way since then, so has water infrastructure, and this project represents another step forward in providing clean, reliable, and modern water service to our customers.
SJW replaces 20+ miles of pipeline each year to ensure continued reliable water service. In the short and rainy month of February, the company put 1.1 miles of water main replacements into service and is just one step closer to meeting its annual goal!
