San Jose Water Company's vast water transmission and distribution system serves water to a community of more than a million people. For those needing water for their project, it is important to understand that getting required amounts of water to certain remote areas or older infill areas can be challenging, due especially to current codes and regulations related to public health and fire suppression.
Consequently, it is highly recommended that you not attempt to estimate your project's water utility infrastructure costs yourself (see disclaimer below). Contact the Company early in your planning so we can assist you in understanding the issues and costs related to serving water to your project.
The Company is regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). CPUC rules and regulations have been drafted by the CPUC with input from Utilities to ensure fairness and impartiality to all who need our service. While CPUC rules and regulations are somewhat flexible, they require the company to evaluate each water service inquiry in sequence…first in time, first in line. In very busy development times, this requirement can present a challenge to your schedule, again emphasizing the need for you to contact us early in your project timeline. We can suggest various approaches to your project such as doing your own engineering and/or construction that might better fit your scheduling requirements.
The Company prides itself in its working relationship with all who need our service. We have creative and innovative ideas and a talented and dedicated staff who are expert in matters of water utility infrastructure. The sooner you contact us in the course of your project, the sooner we can get started towards solving your water service needs. Don't hesitate to call Wayne Warren, Manager of our Water Services Department, at 408-279-7873 if you have any questions.
